MARC Records Bulk Import
Case study
Goal
To provide a mechanism for catalogers to map and stage title data from external sources before they are added to the Wise catalog collection. Leveraging and improving upon the existing match and merge functionality currently offered in the Wise Client.
Problem statement
The operational inefficiency stemming from the inability of Wise catalogers to perform bulk vendor record imports presents a critical challenge. To address this, we propose the development and implementation of a feature set enabling the mapping and standardization of title date data from external sources prior to catalog entry. This strategic initiative will not only ensure competitive differentiation by exceeding current market offerings, but will also yield significant workflow optimization, resulting in measurable improvements in operational performance.
Lessons learned
- Prioritize thorough discovery and collaborative requirements gathering.
- Maximize efficiency by leveraging existing design systems and stakeholder-approved patterns.
- Validate designs through prototyping and iterative usability testing.
- Allocate time for multiple testing rounds and issue refinement to ensure a high-quality user experience.

Discovery, Design & Iteration
Conducted in-depth user interviews and analyzed competitor products to identify pain points and opportunities. Used a Miro board to capture pain points and opportunities for sessions held with academic librarians in the US and Canada.
Created paper prototypes and wireframes and conducted multiple rounds of user testing to refine the experience.
